Dr. Mackey holds a PhD in Nutrition from Clayton College of Health, and a Masters of Science in Nursing degree along with the designation, Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (NP), from Florida International University. She is board certified as an Advanced Holistic Nurse, earning the credentials, AHN-BC. She also holds a Bachelor in Science degree from Cornell University, where she completed a research project involving the production of interferon.
Dr. Mackey has studied integrative therapies in Europe and the United States over the last thirty years, using naturopathic principles and herbal therapies as a foundation for her current work. She is a Master Herbologist and Clinical Herbalist, and has formulated and produced 50 unique compounded phytomedicinals used for specific health imbalances and dis-ease. Dr. Mackey is also nationally certified as a massage therapist (MTC/inactive) and blends massage techniques with Therapeutic Touch and advanced bioenergy therapies, mindbody integration, acupressure, and other therapies.
As a health advocate, educator, and holistic nurse practitioner at Mackey Health, Dr. Mackey incorporates principles and practices of natural health into a traditional framework (integrative healthcare), as she provides insightful educational information and useable tools to help you reclaim your vital energy and health. She shares specific methods with you as you tap into your inner self, unlocking the doors of misperception that keep you from living a vital healthy life. Being aware of your core energy (LifeForce), the energy that innately fuels every part of your body, mind and spirit in your living environment, is essential to living well. Dr. Mackey focuses on that energy, and teaches you how to use natural ways of correcting, balancing and supporting your uniquely sensitive LifeForce energy. Dr. Mackey provides individual consultations with people about their specific health issues.

MY EARLY STORY (My Later Story is found at the end of this page)
When I was 4 years old I had a horrendous illness and almost died. A virulent strain of staphylococcus aureus was wildly proliferating in the cavity around my lungs (pleural cavity), causing an infection to travel through my body. Despite having a fever reaching 106 degrees F and higher, being given massive amounts of varied antibiotic injections and inserting a chest tube in an attempt to drain out the infection, nothing worked for weeks. I was anointed with oils, prayed over and prayed for, and hung on. Zippered into an oxygen tent, I remember rolling my eyes to my right ear and breathing, hearing hollow-sounding noise, and if I kept my eyes there long enough, I felt a change in my energy, lifting out of my body and looking down at everything. I remember the details to this day, including the speckles on the green, shiny linoleum-tiled floor in the operating room. I saw the doctors, nurses and the stuffed animals in my room. I lingered and would come back into my body, and hung in my body. Somehow I was to hang onto this life and did. In retrospect, I know it was not the antibiotics that saved my life.
This early life experience gifted me with the knowledge that something exists beyond the consciousness of the body and mind, that the ability to shift in and out of energy fields is a natural phenomenon, and that healing lies beyond science as it is understood in the laboratory.

MY LATER STORY
In 1982 while studying at Cornell University, I undertook a research project involving the production of interferon in the laboratory. I grew feline fibroblast cells, challenged them with virus, incubated the cells, harvested them, and stained them to determine the amount of interferon produced. It was discovered that interferon did not just sit outside the cell on its membrane but it was found inside the cell as well, orchestrating many cellular immuno-protective events, innate to each cell. I then went on to use styrene beads for interferon production. The clinical application of the research was for children with leukemia whose immune system was challenged. These children were in clinical trials where they received injections of the synthesized interferon. The outcome: the children did not get well but further developed new health problems. They developed tumors around the heart (pericardial), something that did not fall in line with the usual progression of leukemia at that time. I had already graduated from Cornell University when I became aware of this information. This research experience served as a further motivator to help understand that science alone does not have the answers to help people heal. Knowledge and understanding of interferon and the functions it plays throughout the bodymind along with application of phytomedicinals, bioenergy therapies, nutrition, and other natural means promotes the person's innate ability to produce and regulate their own interferon. Interferon is better regulated by the body's knowledge of what is needed, not by a dose that might not be enough or perhaps too much for that particular individual. Over the years, I have worked with many, many people with immune-related issues, using natural therapies to correct and support immune dysfunction.
In 1986, at the University of Miami, I worked on the front and back lines involving AIDS research. At the time we were performing clinical trials on several drugs, specifically on AZT. The study was uncovered early as it showed to be efficacious as an anti-viral medication for AIDS. That meant the drug would be available to most all people living with AIDS instead of a select research population. The problem though, was the dosing, which was given at a dose that was 3-5 times higher than was actually needed. At that time, many people died not from AIDS but from the use of the experimental drugs. Because I was committed to helping people heal, I became involved in community action programs that were open to natural ways of healing, some of which were "underground" at the time. We helped people correct and heal their bodymindspirit through natural means, including nutrition, visualization, perceptual shifts, massage and touch therapies, energy therapies, spiritual ceremony, phytomedicinals, and other natural therapies. More and more people healed themselves by understanding that AIDS was a dis-ease of the body, mind and spirit, and the environment they lived in. It became obvious that people living with AIDS needed to adopt measures to address their whole health. Whole health was promoted through individual education and educational programs that supported the knowledge of a person's innate ability of the bodymind to self-correct and self-heal through using specific natural healing strategies.
After years of experience in the laboratory and clinical research, I was determined to find more specific ways to help people heal using natural therapies. With my own childhood experience and the amazing healing experiences I witnessed while working with clients for the many years thereafter, I continued to study natural ways of healing. In France, I lived, studied, and worked alongside natural healers there. Many years later, I was sought out by internationally known healers and for over four years, we worked together teaching health professionals and people in local communities. We also provided diagnosis and natural treatment for people with a wide range of illnesses. A wealth of information has been given to me beyond what is found in the research laboratory. I still enjoy and embrace the sciences and scientific research, but know that it is time to make another effort to bring the art of healing using natural means, together with the science of healing. My goal is to reach wider audiences and educate people on the integration of the art and science of health and healing.
